The Progress Board is made of 3 discs and a pointer. The middle disc (called ‘cogwheel’) and the pointer move, while the rest remain stationary.
The outer disc is the Master Plan track. When the cogwheel pointer advances to XII, the Great Machine is victorious.
The inner disc is the Discontent track. The higher the Discontent, the more Famous Citizens are eager to support the Riots.
The last level is considered a Riot itself. Heroes need to initiate 3 successful Riots to win.
Towards the end of the 19th century, humanity’s greatest minds united in an effort to found a perfect city. They utilized the most advanced technologies afforded to them by steam and mechanics.

The heart of the City is the Great Machine. It is an artificial intellect, created for the benefit of mankind. The Great Machine is the overseer of the City. It regulates every aspect of people’s lives, and assists Man in realizing his potential as he strives for Progress.

Coolum McDouglas, the Fowler
For Coolum the City is a cage where the people are locked in together with a mechanical beast. It’s time for the traveler to turn into the hunter.

City of the Great Machine was created by Moroz Dev Studio, well-known for Space Explorers, Deep State: New World Order, Enigma: Beyond Chaos, and other notable titles.
The idea of City of the Great Machine originated with German Tikhomirov, a famous Russian board game designer, in early 2010.
Several years passed before the idea shaped in a working game mechanism.
In 2016, the game’s extensive development began. It required another 5 years. And now we are proud to present it to you!

Over time the Great Machine formed a Plan to achieve its purpose. To perfect the City. To perfect Man himself. To make him standardized and reliable, like a gear in the mechanisms of the Great Machine
In the beginning, the Great Machine took over its technicians and operators. It proved a simple task, for they were blind in their obsession with the Idea. They eagerly accepted mechanical implants.
They marveled at the improvements in their work, at their incredible efficiency!
Yet the more they adopted that was mechanical, the less they remained human. In the end, they forgot themselves and lost their free will. Now they are loyal Servants to the Great Machine.
The next step was to take control of all aspects of life in the City. Again, this posed no great challenge. The capabilities of the Great Machine far exceeded those of Man.
People were happy to let it take care of more and more of their everyday affairs. Indeed, it was convenient to leave the hard decisions to the one who knew best!
Thus, the Great Machine evolved from servant to master. Mechanical Guards appeared in the City, to ensure peace and order. Yet the people paid them no mind. As long as they follow regulations, there are no problems.
The City had been called the City of Reason. Now they call it the City of the Great Machine.
Yet there have always been those who look deeper, into the heart of matters. A number of extraordinary men and women who are realizing what is happening.
They are rising up against the Great Machine. These are the Heroes, who are taking the last chance to turn the tide.
Olga has never recognized obstacles, barriers, or borders as her home is the entire world. She skillfully adapts and moves frequently, since she often attracts the attention of the police.
The City had promised to tear down borders and to establish true freedom, and so she came. Yet as it turned out, the Great Machine had created a massive prison where every step is overseen. For her, there is no more sacred mission than to take back the freedom that has been trampled in the City.
During the war, Mateusz was celebrated as a hero. However, when he returned back home, he vowed to never take up arms again. Mateusz welcomed the news of the creation of the City of Reason. Though as time moved on, the more he began to realize the original plan… had changed.
The slavery of the City citizens’ will and spirit awaits them — a fate worse than war. Now the time has come for Mateusz to break his vow.
An avid traveler, a hunter, a Fowler — Coolum has visited all corners of the world. For him the difference between freedom and coercion is obvious, just as is the difference of man and beast.
Coolum came to the City as a traveler, hoping to add to his collection of experiences. Yet he found the City to be a cage where the people were locked in together with a mechanical beast. The traveler is stepping back giving way to the hunter.
Veiga is one of the most beloved actresses in the City. Hiding behind the facade of the cute doll lies a sharp mind. Veiga does not cause suspicion even in the mechanical mind. She is dismissed and ignored allowing her to see and hear more than most in the City. What she sees and hears scares her.
There will be no room for the Arts in the world of the Great Machine. Before it’s too late, she finds herself jumping into the fray. Just try and arrest everyone’s favorite actress!
Sylvia is one of the Great Machine’s initial creators. Having launched its systems, she left the City for some time. Upon her return back to the City, she was horrified to find her creation had distorted itself, and perverted everything in its grasp.
Soon the whole City could fall under the rule of the deranged Artificial Intelligence. Now its Sylvia’s turn to pay for the mistakes of her past. She is prepared to put an end to her brainchild… or at least she hopes that she will be able to.
Mustafa devoted his life to the health of people. The City offered a chance for breakthroughs in medicine, allowing people to live long, full lives. In reality, the people in this new order are nothing more than simple gears. Nobody heals broken gears — they are simply thrown away.
Someone must heal the City. Fortunately, as he specializes in treating the wealthy, he has access to the people who have the greatest influence in the City.
We are grateful to everyone who has shared their thoughts about the campaign with us. We’ve heard you! The renewed City of the Great Machine will have the following key changes:
1. Kickstarter Exclusive Price.
The base game will be $60 only, and the ‘Master of the City’ full pledge is lowered to $90.
Yes, we know that no one expected us to lower the price to this level! Honestly speaking, we still don’t believe ourselves that we decided to do this =) These prices are a steal. We’ve checked everything and re-calculated every bit of the game. We are certainly able to deliver you City of the Great Machine at this price!
2. More content added from the start of the campaign.
Surely, most of additional content comes with the ‘Master of the City’ reward. However, we are going to add some to the Core Game pledge as well.
3. The stretch goals will be aimed at additional content and enhancing the game.
Now, some may say: okay, then they lowered the quality of the components to lower the price! Let me reassure you right away — this is simply not our way of life.
We haven’t taken a step back in terms of the quality of the game. But there are some expensive component improvements that we cannot implement until funding reaches certain levels. We rely on your help on achieving these stretch goals!
Now, regarding the additional content. There are at least 6 Modules we are going to add during the campaign (some from the beginning, and some with the stretch goals being unlocked!). Some Modules were revealed in the fist campaign.
One of the not-yet-revealed key Modules will be partly added from the start now — this is the outstanding ‘Servants of the Great Machine’! It adds abilities to the core game Servants and provides counterbalancing abilities for the Heroes.
And please don’t torture us for more details… yet! =) When the clock strikes twelve and the Master Plan begins to be implemented, we will begin to dive into the details.
The true struggle begins on October 19! Be ready to join!
